About Umi_
sea inspired < minimalism > custom made ceramics
Watching ocean waves reflect sunlight can be a source of beauty and inspiration. It reminds us of how extraordinary and perfect nature is. It evokes the feeling that we are part of something bigger and more beautiful than everyday life.
My ceramics are inspired by the sea. I use natural materials, such as clay, and to process them, I often use forms inspired by nature, such as stones, shells or pieces of wood found on the beach. I design forms that are both abstract and more realistic, and the choice of technique and style depends on the purpose of the vessel and the emotions during creation. However, the common ingredient of these works is the love of the sea nature and the desire to express its beauty and meaning through ceramics.
The style of my ceramics is very diverse, but the common element that connects my works is the irregular shape, matte finish, and raw material. I present beauty in imperfections, impermanence, and simplicity. This minimalist form of ceramics is related to the Japanese concept of aesthetic art, wabi-sabi. It is an important part of the Japanese way of thinking about beauty and life. In ceramics and art, wabi-sabi works often reflect the beauty of the present moment, the impermanence of things, and the delicacy of human experience. In ceramics, all this makes each piece unique, and these works can inspire reflection and meditation.
I encourage you to quietly observe and contemplate the beauty in everyday, simple things.
